Abstract

There has been a notable increase in the significance of economic disparity as a primary driver of political polarization, which is causing democratic systems to undergo changes and influencing public discourse. there is a correlation between the widening ideological gaps that exist between countries and the widening income disparities that are taking place inside the same cultures. The purpose of this research is to investigate the ways in which economic inequality leads to polarization by influencing voter behavior, trust in institutions, and preferences for policy. This is accomplished through the examination of case studies that originate from both developed and developing countries. It is clear from the evidence that unequal economic arrangements frequently lead to the alienation of marginalized groups, the emergence of populist movements, and the dissolution of political accord. This is the case more often than not. The gap in economic status not only adds fuel to the fire of identity-based conflicts, but it also helps to cultivate a "us versus them" mentality, which further contributes to the breakdown of democratic institutions. The urgent need for equitable economic policies and institutional reforms to mitigate the detrimental effects of inequality on political stability and social cohesion is a necessity that must be addressed immediately.
