The Reality of Health Awareness Among University Students: A Descriptive Exploratory Study on First-Year Common Core Social Sciences Students at the University of El Oued

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the level of health awareness among university students through a descriptive exploratory study conducted on first-year Common Core Social Sciences students at the University of El Oued. The researchers adopted the descriptive exploratory approach as the most appropriate method for the nature of the study. The sample was selected using the comprehensive survey method and consisted of 484 male and female students. Data were collected using the Health Awareness Scale developed by Fathiza Ali (2026). The collected data were statistically processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The study yielded the following findings:

• The level of health awareness among first-year Common Core Social Sciences students at the University of El Oued was moderate.
• The level of health awareness among first-year Common Core Social Sciences students at the University of El Oued in the first dimension (Health in General Life) was moderate.
• The level of health awareness among first-year Common Core Social Sciences students at the University of El Oued in the second dimension (Physical and Sports Health) was moderate.
