Abstract

This research examines the phenomenon of marital infidelity as a complex social issue that goes beyond its individual moral dimension to touch upon the value-based and structural foundations of the family institution. The analysis starts with the definition of the concept and the establishment of its terminological limitations, it then demonstrates the contribution of this phenomenon in certain ancient civilizations, societies, and religions, highlighting the Islamic perspective which is regarded as a normative framework that regulates the marital relationship. This research also addresses the most prominent social and psychological causes leading to marital infidelity. Ultimately, the analysis concludes by examining the negative repercussions of marital infidelity on the family’s cohesion, its value-based and functional stability, and the resulting disruptions.
