Abstract

This study defines banking governance and identifies the principles on which it is founded. It examines the role of governance in safeguarding the banking system against banking risks and improving banking performance. It further highlights the importance of banking supervision in establishing an effective governance framework by examining the supervisory bodies operating within the Algerian banking system and specifying the functions and responsibilities assigned to each.
