Abstract

Stress and anxiety are common problems in modern life. Students, workers, and older adults may experience stress because of academic responsibilities, work pressure, financial difficulties, family problems, and changes in lifestyle. Long-term stress can affect both physical and mental health. Yoga is a traditional mind-body practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, and meditation. In recent years, yoga has become popular as a complementary approach for improving mental well-being. This paper discusses the possible role of yoga in reducing stress and anxiety. It explains how yoga may influence the body and mind, describes some common yoga practices, and discusses the potential benefits of regular practice. Research suggests that yoga may help some people manage stress and anxiety, although the strength of evidence varies among different populations and types of yoga programs. Yoga should therefore be considered a supportive practice rather than a replacement for professional treatment when anxiety or stress is severe.
