Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) has emerged as a transformative technology with significant implications for modern commerce. Unlike conventional artificial intelligence systems that primarily analyze information, classify data, or generate predictions, generative AI can create new textual, visual, audio, and other forms of digital content. The rapid development of large language models and multimodal systems has enabled businesses to integrate generative AI into marketing, customer service, product development, sales, human resource management, financial analysis, and administrative activities. Organizations can use these technologies to prepare product descriptions, create promotional content, summarize business documents, communicate with customers, support market research, and assist employees in routine knowledge-intensive tasks. Generative AI can consequently improve productivity, reduce the time associated with repetitive activities, and support new forms of commercial innovation. However, its adoption also creates challenges involving inaccurate outputs, intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, algorithmic bias, workforce transformation, and organizational accountability. Businesses must therefore develop appropriate governance frameworks and human oversight mechanisms. This paper examines the role of generative AI in contemporary commercial activities and analyzes its influence on marketing, retail, customer relationship management, finance, entrepreneurship, organizational productivity, and strategic decision-making. The paper argues that generative AI should not be understood simply as a replacement for human labour but as an emerging capability that can augment human creativity, analytical capacity, and decision-making. The long-term commercial value of generative AI will depend on responsible implementation, employee skills, data governance, technological infrastructure, and the ability of organizations to integrate AI into broader business strategies.
